I was not specific enough in past post.

Computer is up and running. AIM has loadedbut is not in
use. If OE is now launched, the AIM sign in window comes
up.
In addition the contact list in OE now contains all the
AIM contacts which belong to my son.

Need to stop this

Thanks
Fred

If you prefer not to have AIM integrated into Outlook Express, go to the
Sign On/Off preferences category in AIM and disable the "Make AIM my default
instant messaging program" option. Restart your computer if the change is
not taking effect after exiting AIM and restarting Outlook Express.

It doesn't care if you are logged in or not to AIM, it will still start up
every time you open Outlook Express if you do not do the above.

Fred,

By default, OE is set to start Windows Messenger. When your
son installed AIM, he selected "Make AIM the default instant
messaging program", or something similar to this.

There are two settings involved:

In AIM, you have to go to Preferences and uncheck the above
option.

In OE, go to Tools/Options, and uncheck "Automatically start
Windows Messenger"

If after all this, you find Windows Messenger keeps appearing
in the systray, go to c:\Program Files\Messenger and rename
msmsgs.exe to msmsgs.ex_.

Sorry, I completely forgot about the "Contacts" showing. If
you don't need Contacts at all, just close that window. You
shouldn't have to rename the Windows Messenger file.

Also, check a little earlier in this newsgroup, and you'll
find another thread on this with more technical info.
