Assistance needed, please and thank you

I seem to be able to download all attachments, with the exception of .exe
files.
Attempting to do so brings up the following message.

" There was an error saving one or more of the attachments. Please check
your free disk space and try again."

Would you please instruct me as to what I need to do, I believe I have tried
all avenues in solving this problem, but perhaps I have been down the wrong
paths.

I have winxp
Pentium 4, CPU 2.26GHz
768 MB of RAM
Free disk space showing 91.7 GB

This issue has come up before in this newsgroup. Try this fix, courtesy of
Alan Edwards, MVP:

This is where the problem is. There is a plugin that should not be there.
(start-Run-Regedit to edit the Registry)

I had a case where HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile were
perfectly OK, yet .exe files wanted to open in Acroread as PDF files.
I removed the incorrect data from under this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins

It is most likely this key that should be removed.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

The solution there is to delete this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extensions\
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\
(it may be "Extensions" or "Extension")

Explorer\Plugins\Extension\ and deleted it, then rebooted - still not able
to save executables attachments from Outlook Express email.

Any other suggestions you can offer ?

Did you reboot the computer after the registry change? If so, and no help,
then:

some programs that may be causing it:

Yes Jim, I rebooted. I also checked the article and I don't have the
programs mentioned. As for Active X, I'm not sure about this, as to what
would apply.
My problem is with Outlook Express and not Internet Explorer - so does this
link apply to my problem.

Outlook Express uses the capabilities of Internet Explorer to render HTML
mail. If the problem only occurs with HTML formatted messages, then you
should consider applying the fixes outlined for Internet Explorer. If you
want to send one of the problem messages to me (by right clicking it and
selecting Forward as Attachment), I'll be happy to look at it and see if the
problem is with the attachment itself or how it is being sent. You can send

Thank you once again.....................
Ok, I finally was able to receive, and open the executable file.
First, I forwarded the message to my husband's computer.
Here I was able to save the attachment, and open it with no problem.
I then compressed the file and sent it to my computer, I was able to save
the attachment.
When I went to open it, a message popped up saying "Windows has blocked
access to these files to help protect your computer. I then knew what I had
to do to open it.
By clicking on the properties of the file and unblocking it.

I still don't have an answer as to why I couldn't save the executable
attachment, but since my computer needs a major tune-up, this may very well
be the problem.

Again, thank you most sincerely for your help, time and expertise.

"major tune-up" on your system, and the easiest might be to save essential
data to CD, then format and reinstall the operating system. You should
enlist the help of an experienced user with that, since the possiblity of
becoming infected with a parasiste or trojan can occur in moments after you
connect to the internet, unless your system is "fully patched" and protected
against such intrusions. Good luck.
