connection but i haven't changed anything in a long time.
anyone know whats goin on? i can't check my email or
anything passport related, it just doesn't display. at
first i thought maybe maintenence, but for that long?

Please post any error messages you're getting when the attempt to connect
fails.

well i enter my password to sign on, and it goes trying
to connect 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, then it says the service may be
unavailable or something or my password is incorrect. not
sure if it means anything but in that same prompt box
there is a 22 at the bottom left corner....whenever i
used to enter the wrong pw it would immediatly tell me.
when i try to log on to messenger it just tells me
something about sevice being unavailable or password/
username is incorrect, which it isn't because it works
just fine on my other computer which is on the same
network. i made all the internet options the exact same,
still nothing.

Make certain your Time, Date and Time Zone settings are correct.

If you installed 810847 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810847) from
Windows Update, you will need 813951
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813951). If either of these are
installed, the numbers will show in IE Help>About>Update Versions.

time and date stuff is correct.
in teh about thing it says 810847, so i went to the
second link you gave me and i say download .... and then
it tells me it requires ie 6 sp1 and q810847 to be
installed, which i think it already is. so then i find ie
6 sp1 and it tells me something about the software being
installed did not pass some windows xp logo test or
somethin like that, good thing all of micro is on the
same page as soft.... any other clue whats wrong?

If IE Help>About lists version 6.0.2800.1106, you're running IE6-SP1.

First of all, are you running a third-party firewall (e.g., Zone Alarm) and
did you try disabling it? Is WinXP's built-in firewall also enabled along
with the third-party firewall?

You should always disable your anti-virus application when going to Windows
Update. Many users find they also need to disable their firewall (or at
least some of its options).

Try the Windows Update Troubleshooter at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/. See the section
entitled ""Software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing"
for help with your problem.
