I am running IEv6.0 with all the latest updates on a
machine running W2K with administrator rights. My problem
is that I downloaded Star Office v5.2 to check it out and
I didn't like the way it hijacked things, like if I had a
MS Explorer shortcut on desktop or in a folder it
automatically would open the URL with the Star Office
browser and not IE. When I uninstalled Star Office 5.2 is
when the problem began. Now when I go to click on the
Internet shortcut for the URL instead of opening up IEv6,
it opens up the MS File download application. If I right
click on the URL shortcut and go to change what opens the
file and select Internet Explorer, I get the "file
download" window again. However, if I do this and select
Netscape Browser as the application to open the Internet
shortcut, Netscape opens up and I get the following
windows error message...

"C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\desktop\trancetrax.com.url" this is
the heading of the window...

The error message is as follows..."Cannot find the file
C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\desktop\trancetrax.com.url (or one
of its components). Make sure the path and the filename
are correct and that all the required libraries are
available..."

When I click on the radio button that says "okay," the web
page opens up or if I just leave the error window open the
web page opens up. While this is a temporary solution, I
want to be able to go back to using IEv6 to open up
Internet shortcuts. I have tried using the fix Internet
explorer option, uninstalling and re-installing IE6 and to
no avail. I have searched the knowledge database here to
no avail either. My thinking is that there is a bad
registry key or somehow the file associations are corrupt,
but I am not sure. Any help would be deeply appreciated
and I can be contacted at neomat...@yahoo.com.

Thanks for our time and help in this matter.
