OK - I found some other posts and this seems to have worked for me also.

Uninstall
Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB942615)

I haven't seen the error again... Keep your fingers crossed.

I had the same problem too using IE6. I wrote to Microsoft but no answer
yet. I then had to go in and turn off the automatic updates and change it
to Auto but inform me first. It tried to reinstall the KB942615 update
again so I told it to ignore that update for now. Problem solved. Started
after the updates of 12/11.

Please note that I noticed that solution
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942367 did work a couple of times but then
IE 6 crashes again. Sometimes I can access gmail.google.com three times in
a row but then I have the exact same error

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: urlmon.dll ModVer:
6.0.2900.3231 Offset: 0003b5ce

So, kb942367 is NOT the solution

Reinstall it with your anti-virus and anti-spyware turned off.

I'd like to add my INPUT here as well. One of our users was having the
same symptoms discussed on this post. IE kept crashing going to
websites, GMAIL.COM was a good example that would always crash the IE
window when attempting to access the website.

The fix mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942367 did the
job. I ended up not even having to install the hotfix mentioned in the
article. I just did the registry portion and going to the websites was
fixed.

So if anyone else out there who is having the same problem, try just
changing the REGISTRY settings first.
