I an effort to speed up my computers perfromance, I ran msconfig and unchecked
those programs that I did not need at startup. It really helped. I noticed
that there were 2 items that I was unsure of: Taskman.exe (Task Monitor) and
Aoltray.exe (AOL System Tray).

Not sure what these programs do. I certaintly do not have an AOL icon in my
system tray, nor do I want one. Not sure about Taskman. Any thoughts???

Thanks

I've read NOT to delete Taskman.exe; however, you can
deselect Aoltray.exe.

You don't need the AOL tray, but you want to keep the Task Monitor. It keeps track of your computing habits, uses little or no resources to do so, and the logs it keeps are what Windows (and Norton) uses to determine the best optimization pattern at Defrag time. Unless you deliberately don't Optimize during Defrag, leave that TaskMon running.

Yes, I know. I also assumed that the original poster meant TaskMON when (s)he typed TaskMAN (which would never appear in MSCONFIG) for Task Monitor, <s>.
