The office machine here at my wife's small business was groaning to a halt
after 3 years of MS patches and the like, and so I thought that instead of
uninstalling and reinstalling back to XPPro and Office 2003, I might as well
upgrade everything which meant Windows 7 Ultimate and Office 2010.
On reinstalling MOA 2009, and service packs 1, 2, and 3, I can not for the
life of me get MOA to default to my customised templates. I can "Export to
Word", and Modify under "Manage Word Templates" and any modifications I make
seem persistent, but when I click either print or print preview from MOA, the
template it uses is not one of the ones in the list. I've literally spent
hours looking for this template to modify, but suspect it must be hard coded,
and MOA is ignoring the list of templates now.
I also wonder if the error is in word 2010's handling of XML markups and
fields as when I open the document templates in word, it will disable the
fields and turn them into text (e.g. '[Text 5]' or ['Customer Name]') rather
than showing the fields with the odd pink field markers around the field
names. I've mucked about after enabling the developer tab in attempting to
get the XML Schema attached and linked, but the closest I get is a message
telling me that the "XML Expansion Pack is invalid"
I'd really like to know either a fix, or the best recommendation for the
software I could upgrade to taking my data and templates with me.
Thanks for any help,
Rod

I had the same problem,

Could only get the xml working under an unpatched version of office 2007
(installed on the xp mode vm)

For the default templates, are you saying you have checked the print options
sections of the print menu (file >>print), I can change the default template
without any issues here.

Hi,

Must adnit that I have been running Ofiice 2010 since beta and now with RTM
and all of my custom templates work fine.

However all of these were created a while back using Office 2007, so I would
need to check if a new template created from 2010 or an amended one would
work, but so far I have no issues with MOA 2009 Pro and Office 2010.

I've just used MOA for the first time since upgrading to Office 2010 and MOA
crashes every time I try to print or export to a word template. On the other
hand it works fine on another pc with the same configuration.

However, on the problem pc I had to do a bit of a clean-up to get O2010
installed that meant deinstalling older MS progs. So I'm wondering if one of
those was required to keep the template interface working

Any suggested solutions will be gratefully received

Yep, got the same problem with MOA2009 and Word 2010.
Agree that it seems likely to be related to XML because mine too converts it
from field vales and just shows the text of the field names.

My templates were originally created in Word 2007 and worked no problem at
all until I upgraded to Office 2010 Pro, which again suggests its Word 2010
itself which is the problem.

I've found a way round this that works for me. The trick seems to be to get Word to access the XML schema provided by Accounting 2009. Summary as follows:

1. Ideally find an unedited Accounting 2009 template file that retains the schema links (see later). It doesn't matter which template it is, but it saves effort later finding the XML schema file
2. Save it as a new template in Word 97-2003 format
3. Put Word 2010 into 'developer' mode (File > Options > Customise Ribbon to display it on the Ribbon)
4. Select 'Structure' (on the XML tab) and select 'Design Mode' (Controls tab)
5. An XML Structure pane should have opened on the RHS of the Word window. If not (esp if you've not managed to find an unaltered template file per step 1), you will need to select 'Schema' (XML tab) and hunt through your system for the Accounting 2009 XML schema. I didn't have to do this, so can't help much more
6. Assuming you've got a valid schema open, untick the box at the bottom of the XML Structure pan entitled "List only child elements of current element". This should then bring up a list of all the placeholders from Accounting 2009, which you can then insert into your document as you like
7. Edit the template, inserting fields as required, and save in 97-2003 format in the Accounting template folder.
