Why do I get pop-ups from a "Messenger Service" saying I have problems like
buffer overrun and registry problems and that I should go to
www.patchupdate.info to download a patch. I get a series of about 6
different pop-ups and they come up with regularity while I am connected to
the internet. I have Firefox with the blocker on and I have run the Ashampoo
spyware removal. I also have a problem when my wife is on Yahoo! games that
the system stops responding after she has been playing for a while. The
system will respond again if left for a half hour or so. It will hang again
after she has played for a while again. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ANSWERS AS TO
THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS?

Yes. Clean up your computer because it obviously has malware. The
Messenger service popups also indicate that you are running an NT-based
system (probably XP) that has not got the latest Service Pack
installed, and you may not have a firewall either.

To see how to practice "Safe Hex":

Infected Anyway?

If you are running XP, do not install Service Pack 2 on an infested
machine. When the machine is completely clean, see these sites for
preliminary work that needs to be done:

Are You Ready for WinXP SP2? -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=windowsxpsp2
SP2 links to OEMs - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/oemlinks.mspx
Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist -

And if this all seems too complex, take your machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) and have
them fix it. There is no shame in doing this.

Just to add to Malke's good advise ,
make sure your Messenger service is disabled.
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Administrative tools-Services
now find Messenger and make sure it is set to off

Also uninstall Ashampoo.

and then perform the general instructions from Malke's site
