Hello,

since years I use Project 2000 Standard without problems.

suddenly I get this:
.
- Programm Start
- Project runs, Project Data is displayed

but then:

Errormessage:

MS Project for Windows application file found a Problem.

After clicking the button "Do not Send" Project is ended.

No success with Repair and Newinstallation.

Project Data is OK I also get this message without loading a project.

MS-Project 2000, SR1
XP Pro SP2

Any hints?

Hi Harry,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :-)

I suspect a corrupt file, you could try the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43.
File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :-)

No it isn't. The project file works with different computers and
different MS-Project Programms.

MS-Project also shuts down if I dont load a project file.

I had a look at it, but didnt find anything usefull.

>> Errormessage:

I think I got this after a windows and Office update (automatic /
online) last week.

I completely installed Project and reinstalled it - no help.

Hi Harry,

In that case we need to discover whether this project is at fault, whether
it is Project at fault, or whether it's your PC. Does the symptom occur
with other projects on this PC? Does it occur with this project on other
PCs? Does it occur with other projects on other PCs?

Hi Mike,

> Does the symptom occur with other projects on this PC?

I restored a 2 weeks old backup of the project file, which definitely
worked. No change.

> Does it occur with this project on other

No

> Does it occur with other projects on other PCs?

No

It's unpedendent of the project file. It's the programm MS-Project
itself.
It also shuts down if I dont load any project file.

>>> 43. File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

I had a lot of corruptions with Proj-98, but not with 2000 anymore.

If it is OK with a different project, then it can only be corruption within
your project on your PC. Have you done everything detailed in the FAQ? Try
them all again.

No, you got me all wrong.

The project data is OK only on OTHER PC's. Not on myn!

You asked if the error occurs on other PC's and I said NO.

MS-Project on my PC shuts down without loading a projecrt!

It's definitly a Programm error, not a data error.

Sorry, I must be a bit thick today! Well, I can only advise a complete
uninstall, reboot and then a re-instal. Beyond that, I'm out of my depth as
something else in your PC is causing the problem. Maybe it's time to call
Microsoft support.

I did that without help.

I fear something went wrong after the automatic office online update.

Maybe its because I have 2000 and 2003 programms on my PC.

Thanks anyway

Harry,
What do you mean, "...I have 2000 and 2003 programs on my PC."? If you
are referring to different versions of Project, multiple versions can
successfully exist on the same PC. For example, I have Project 98, 2000,
and 2003 Pro all installed under Windows XP Home. The only thing you
need to be careful of is when the installer asks if you want to keep
previously installed versions, you need to select the "yes" option.

However, if something is "messed up" now, you may have no other choice
than to re-install all versions. Start with the earliest version you
want to keep and install later versions in succession.

No, I had Project 98 and updated to 2000.

I meant the other Office Programms.

Sure this shouldn't do anything bad. I'm just trying to find a reason
why Project is avoiding me suddenly.

Somebody told me I should delete Norton Security, which I did, but no
difference.

In the meantime I deinstalled Project again completely but found there
are still many entries in the registry.

I will try to delete those now.

Hi John,

my answer is late, but I was out of town for a while.

>OK, let us know what happens.
>John

I deinstalled Norton completely.

I deinstalled MS-Project again and installed it and repaired it -- no
help.

I checked the registry but I dont know where to look at and dont want
to damage it..

Still the same thing is happening:

Project is started with or without a project and lools very normal.

After a few seconds the sandglas appears (showing something is
working) and then the error message appears..
