When you clicked Convert..., you selected to convert to PPT Slide (it was
already a PPT Presentation). Converting to slide converts the file to a
1-slide presentation, so it's doing what you told it to do.

You need to reinsert the original file if you want to see all the slides. If
you don't have the original PPT file, you're out of luck unless you have a
backup.

In future, to save your embedded presentation to its own folder/file,
right-click the icon, choose Presentation Object | Open, which will open
PPT. Then in PPT, use File | Save Copy As to save the PPT file elsewhere.

It shouldn't be happening to files you didn't convert.

If you right-click those files, do you have a "Presentation Object" option
on the menu?

Yes, there's a presentation object option. Any suggestions? I can't not be
able to open embedded powerpoint files in my PC.

Then choose "open" -- that is, right-click, choose Presentation Object, and
then Open. From there you can "save copy as."

If it had been converted, it would say "slide object" on the right-click
menu.

Right-click --> Presentation Object --> Open and, ta-da, a one-slide
powerpoint file. This is happening even to xls files having embedded
powerpoint files which i did not try to convert. I tried "save copy as" also
and I successfully saved the first slide in the powerpoint file. Maybe there
were settings which were modified in my powerpoint so that it is now opening
embedded powerpoint files as one-slide files...

I don't know, then. It sounds as if the remainder of the presentation has
been deleted somehow, but I don't know what would cause it to happen. I
can't repro it here.
