Has anyone gotten Picture It! Publishing Platinum 2002 to run on Vista? I
have tried installing and running by administrator and compatibility mode Win
XP SP2. PI will start but fails during browsing the gallery or my computer. I
have searched the Vista news group but haven't come up with anything
regarding this problem.

I'm planning to try and install it on
Vista sometime in the next few days.
I'll update this thread with the results.

I also have Windows Vista and I tried to install Picture It publishing 2001
platinum edition and it crashes. Then I tried the patches (pip2k1kl and Win
32 Cabinet self-extractor) that I used before with windows XP SP2 but now in
Vista: no results.
I get the same problems like Tink.
This is such a great program that it should have a solution to work in
Vista.
Thanks in advance for working on it!!!!

I tried installing PIPP2002 on my Vista
partition and was unsuccessful. I've had
so many problems and errors on my Vista
partition I have decided to uninstall Vista
and continue using XP which, for me...has
been a stable and dependable OS.

Maybe at some time in the future I'll give
Vista another try.

Hi,
I just want to share that I have Vista Home Premium, then I installed
Virtual PC 2007 with Vista as a Host and Windows XP as a guest. Then I
installed Microsoft Picture it Publishing 2001 on the virtual PC 2007 and it
runs fine.
link to download Virtual PC 2007:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=en

how to install Virtual PC 2007, here is the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/appcompat.mspx

It's important that after setting up the XP machine, you click on Actions
and Install VM additions.

Thanks for sharing this info about Virtual
PC 2007 but I'm afraid I cannot endorse it.

I think it would be much more productive to
Dual boot Vista and Win XP...which I have
done on my system and it works flawlessly.

FWIW...I guess you noticed that Vista
Home Premium is not listed as a supported
operating system which means tech support
will be non-existent.

And the following info from the Virtual PC 2007
white paper might be interesting:

"In most cases customers are required to
purchase a separate license for every
operating system installed in a virtual
machine".

Not only that but a majority of users are running
an OEM version of Win XP and could not
install the program on the Virtual PC anyway.

Quite frankly, this could be a risky undertaking
and I don't think running Virtual Machine 2007
on Vista for the purpose of running Picture It! is
a good idea.

Good luck.

Hi,
For the records, I did purchased a new full copy of Windows XP Home Edition
to install in the Virtual PC 2007. And I am aware that Microsoft doesn't
support Vista Home Edition as a host with a Virtual PC. But it does Work.
I'm not only using Picture it 2001 on it, but other applications that don't
run in Vista as well. I have been all over the place trying to find a
solution for my programs to run in Vista and so far this option has been the
easiest for me. I just want others to know that this option works fine. I
like the fact that you can move back and for from Vista to Virtual PC so
easlily. I don't know if your method of dual boot allows to share files so
fast.

John,

Will you please explain what it means to "dual boot" XP and Vista?

I, too, never had a problem w/XP and will never understand why companies
change things that work fine. Especially when it comes to soemthing like
this. Computers are such integral part of most people's day-to-day lives,
and now they throw "Vista" at us and it's messing everything up.

Thank you.

Dual-boot is when you run two operating
systems on separate partitions or hard
drives on the same machine. I am currently
running WinXP Pro and Vista Ultimate.

The operating systems run independently
of one another and both must be maintained
with updates, security programs, etc. just
as though it was your only OS.

When my machine boots up I see a boot
menu that allows me to choose the system
I wish...if I do not choose within 5 seconds
it boots to the one that is designated as the
default. It could be either one but I have mine
set for WinXP...I'm still experimenting with
Vista and do most of my work on the XP
partition.

The best method is to install WinXP first.
