I am running Word 2007 on a Win XP Pro system. I want to send a document as
an email message. My mail client is Outlook Express 6. I'm already logged in
to one of my identities when I try to send the message. Word formats the
header and gives me the chance to choose To, CC, BCC and Subject, but then it
crashes when I click the Send button.

I was running Word 2000 until a few weeks ago, and it worked to send
documents this way without any problems.

I have Office Small Business 2007, so I tried sending an Excel 2007
spreadsheet in the body of an email message. It worked fine.

I tried repairing my Office Small Business installation. After it finished,
Outlook Express told me that it was not my default mail handler, though it
had been prior to repairing the installation. I assume that Office changed my
default to Outlook.

One time I got the following message: "Either there is no default mail
client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.
Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client."
This doesn't mean that Word 2007 can't send documents as Outlook Express
messages, does it?

Does anyone have any other suggestions that I haven't tried yet? Thanks!

Thank you for your suggestions. I've tried all those things. I've also
uninstalled Office Small Business 2007 and reinstalled it. I can still send
spreadsheets from Excel 2007 in the body of an email message, but whenever I
try to send a Word 2007 document, Word crashes.

Any other suggestions?

I'm sorry but no. Try posting in a Word- or Office-specific newsgroup, Dan.

Unfortunately, I tried posting my questions in a Word forum initially, and I
never got any responses. After trying several times, I thought maybe I could
try an Outlook Express forum, since that's my email client.

Can you point me to a specific Word forum that I should try?

Open Windows Explorer and click Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll to URL: MailTo Protocol (near the top with other (NONE) file
extensions).
Click Advanced, select 'open' and click Edit. Make sure it reads:

"C:\\PROGRAM FILES\\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\\MSIMN.EXE\" /mailurl:%1

I verified that MailTo Protocol "open" is the same as the line you listed.
Word 2007 still crashes.

Then it's a Word problem.

I agree, especially because I can send an Excel 2007 spreadsheet in the body
of an email message, but I can't send a Word 2007 document.

I have tried several times to post a question to a Word forum, without so
much as a single reply. Can you point me to a forum that I should try so I
can get some help debugging this problem?

Thanks!

You might try microsoft.public.word.mail but prepared for all sorts of flame
replies saying, "Why aren't you using Outlook as God had intended?" <wink>

Also check out microsoft.public.officeupdate to see if anyone else has
reported such issues after installing Office 2007 SP1 (which I assume you
have installed).

It might help if you include more information that simply "crashes" when
you post in the Word group.

It's important to know the Details. When you get "encountered a
problem" message, there is usually a "click here" link to see the error
report. When you click on the link, it will give a message that will
list the Appname XXXX and Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important
to identify the cause and solution. You can ignore the rest of the
message.

Also include operating system that you are using and what specifically
you were doing when the error occurred.

Open internet Explorer;
Goto Tools; Internet Options;
Select the programs tab and change the e-mail program.
