Left column is folder list; right 2/3 of screen area is the INBOX on top and
the PREVIEW PANE on the bottom.
When the mouse pointer rests in the left column, the folder list scrolls
when I turn the mouse wheel. In the upper right portion (inbox) the message
subject lines scroll. In the preview pane, th PREVIEW should scroll.
HOWEVER:
(a) when the highlight is on the SECOND or THIRD message in the INBOX,
then turning the mouse wheel with the mouse pointer in the preview pane DOES
SCROLL THE PREVIEW PANE.
(b) when the highlight is on some OTHER message in the INBOX (usually
the top one, but often somewhere else in the list) then turning the mouse
wheel with the mouse pointer on the preview panel (ACTUALLY CLICKING THERE)
(or on the LOWER scroll bar to the right of the preview panel) causes the
preview panel to scroll a line or two and the INBOX MESSAGE LIST above it to
scroll through the full range of the mouse wheel's movement.
Any fix? / work-around? Why should I be able to scroll ONLY the second and
third messages?

Outsourcing for results!
PS: this behavior does correct itself if I tell the IntelliPoint driver
("buttons" tab) to "use MSOffice Compatible Scroll only". However, then the
software that I use MOST on this computer doesn't recognize the mouse wheel
at all. Before I upgraded to WindowsXP, my OfficeXP worked fine AND my
other software recognized the mouse wheel.
