I fly internationally and change my time zone accordingly. When I make an
appointment in NYC and than fly to Bangkok, the times change to local tomes.
IE, I set an appointment for 10AM to 1PM NYC but when I fly to Bangkok and
set my laptop for Bangkok timezone, the appointment shows as 11PM to 2AM
local. I would like the times to remain relative to the location stipulated
in the appointment.

This becomes most annoying with all day events. If I schedule myself in NYC
for all day Thursday, when I am in Bangkok, it shows that I am there from
noon Wednesday until noon Thursday. The same thing happens with holidays.

I am not using a server. How can I fix this.

Hello. You may try this way. I got this from somewhere on the MS web site.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change the time zone without changing the times of appointments.

Solution:
Export the current calendar information to a .csv file. Select the 'Tools'
menu and select 'Options...'. Click 'Calendar Options...' and click 'Time
Zone...'. Change the time zone. Import the .csv file back into your
calendar.
1) Export the calendar information:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Import And Export...'.
b) Select 'Export to a file' and click 'Next'.
c) Select 'Comma Separated Values (Windows)' and click 'Next'.
d) Select the 'Calendar' folder and click 'Next'.
e) In the 'Save exported file as' box, type the path and name of the file
you wish to export to and click 'Next'.
EXAMPLE: c:\Personal\calendar.csv
f) Select the 'Export Appointments from the Calendar folder' check box and
click 'Finish'.
g) If you have recurring appointments, select the date range you would like
to export and click 'OK'.
NOTE: Recurring appointments will be permanently converted to individual
appointments.

2) Change the time zone:
a) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options...'.
b) Click the 'Preferences' tab and click 'Calendar Options...'.
c) Click 'Time Zone...'.
d) In the 'Time zone' drop-down list box, select the appropriate time zone.
e) Click 'OK' three times.

3) Import the calendar information:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Import and Export...'.
b) Select 'Import from another program or file' and click 'Next'.
c) Select 'Comma Separated Values (Windows)' and click 'Next'.
d) In the 'File to import' box, type the path and name of the file you
exported your calendar to and click 'OK'.
e) Select the 'Calendar' folder and click 'Next'.
f) Click 'Finish'.

Sunyoung Joo,

thanks you for the information. This should resolve the issue but is FAR
too cumbersome to use on a daily basis. I see this as a big deficiency on
outlook for anybody who travels across time zones.

Could a Macro be created for these steps, therefore saving some time.

Just My Opinion

Bill,

I too am an international traveler and have the same problem. I've never been
able to get Outlook to provide the functionality your describe. My solution has
been to depend on my Palmpilot when traveling and use a calender program called
Datebook4 (www.pimlicosoftware.com) which stores a local time zone and a
timezone for each calender entry. So each calender entry is displayed relative
to current local time. All day events are still a little messy as the program
treats them as 24 hr. events and splits them across days. I then use my laptop
just for synchronizing with my pilot to backup data.

As an aside it sounds like you're changing the system time on your laptop as you
travel. This is not recommended in any of the information that I've found. The
recommendation for travelers is to change the time zone displayed by outlook.
You can also display two timezones simultaneously which can be helpful. This
avoids the data corruption that you seem to have experienced. If you right click
in the area on the left of the calendar view where the times are you'll find a
"change time zones" selection.

Regards
Roy
