We have installed Office 2007 on most of our Windows XP SP2 systems and we
are now getting the following event message listed below

We are connected to an Exchange 2003 SP2 server. Everything seems to be
fine, our email works but these message keep on popping up. We have no
proxy server or the like. Everything is on the inside of our fire wall as I
looked and found some stuff on this but nothing seems to related to this
error. Is this just a bug or what? If anybody has any ideas please let me
know.

Hi Adam,

The office12asserttimer is part of the Office 'watson' (error monitor) that creates the 'send to Microsoft' reports. It can come on
if it detects something is running slowly or frequently erroring out.

How did you deploy Office 2007 to your PCs? What steps are you following when you see this? What else do you run on these PCs and
is this consistent on each PC?

Hi Bob

Yes, it is consistent on every PC that we have installed Office 2007 on. We
are a small shop so I installed by hand from an office CD. I did an upgrade
from 2003 to 2007. The upgrade went fine and we are able to connect to our
Exchange Server (Exchange 2003 SP2 running on Windows 2003 Server SP1) with
no issues. The systems are Windows XP SP2 with latest updates. If I go
into the event logs on the PC's I find these errors. The errors are not
constant but they do show up, and they do not seem to kick start the Send
reports all the time, I believe it says that it has stored up some reports
and wishes to send them now. I have received a few calls on them already
but not a lot. I have looked on Google and the like and I have found some
info but not a lot.

Most of the PC's are general business use. We do have some special software
but it seems to be showing up on all of them over time. We use Adobe
products, some AutoCAD stuff but most general just Office.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the delay due to the weekend.

Based on the information you provided, this error may be cause by many
reasons. I have listed some of them for your reference:

* Reason 1: Large .pst or .ost file
===============

Are you using a large .pst or .ost file? If your .pst or .ost file is
larger than 2GB, you may experience a performance issue in Outlook 2007.

In order to accommodate new features, Outlook 2007 introduced a new data
structure for .pst and .ost files. In this new data structure, the
frequency of writing data to the hard disk increases as the number of items
in the .pst or .ost files increases.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

# Method 1: Reduce the size of the Exchange mailbox
# Method 2: Use an online mode profile instead of a cached mode profile
# Method 3: Split your large .pst file into several smaller .pst files
# Method 4: Use a filter to restrict the items that you synchronized from
Exchange into your .ost file

* Reason 2: Windows Desktop Search 3.0

Have you installed any desktop search engine such as Windows Desktop Search
3.0? If this is the case, please temporarily uninstall it and then test the
issue.

If this does not match your situation, then please also try some
suggestions below to narrow it down:

* Suggestion 1: Temporarily turn off/remove antivirus program
================

Many times such issue can be caused by the antivirus program currently
running on the machine. Please temporarily turn off or remove antivirus
application and see if this scenario is gone.

* Suggestion 2: Temporarily remove Adobe Reader
================

Sometimes Adobe Reader can also cause this issue. If you have this program
installed on your computer, please temporarily remove it and see if this
issue can be resolved.

* Suggestion 3: Test in Outlook Safe Mode
================

Outlook Safe Mode can narrow down issues which are caused by any
extensions, corrupted resources, files, registries, or templates.

1. Click Start | Run.
2. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks)
Notes: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
3. Click OK.

If all fail, then please help us collect more information so that we can do
further research:

issue?
2. Does the produce ever worked? If so, what have been changed?
3. Please take a screenshot on the exact error message and send it to me.

1. When this error message appears, press PrScrn key on your keyboard.
2. Type "mspaint" (without the quotation marks) in Start>Run box and click
OK.
3. Click Edit>Paste to paste the screenshot.
4. Save it as JPEG file type and send it as Email attachment.
