I wanted to let people know that the Beta 2 breaks Microsoft Works 8.5. The
file wkwbl.dll is overwritten from 8/18/05 version to 3/31/06 dated version
and this dll doesn't work when called by the Works WP module. I didn't grab
the exact message, but in essence the dll that Works was expecting isn't the
dll that it finds.

First I did a reinstall of Works 8.5, and the error repeated. Next I deleted
the Microsoft Works folder and did a reinstall of Works 8.5. This cured the
problem. I then ran Word 2007 Beta 2 to make sure that reinstalling Works 8.5
didn't break Word 2007.

Hi R.,

Interesting. Be sure to report this directly to Microsoft as well using the 2007 Office System Feedback tool (send-a-smile/frown).

I hit the same problem - but I hope there is an easier way to cure it (like
just replacing the wkwbl.dll with a correct version. Don't want to go through
the reinstall process of Works.

I'm getting the same thing on my Works 7.0. The exact message is "The
procedure entry point? Failure Reinstall
@WBLMESSAGES@@QAEXPAUHWND__@@PBG@Z. Could not locate in the dynamic
link library WKWBL.dll".

I really don't want to have to reinstall Works because came packaged
with my computer. This would mean having to start over again. Any
other suggestions??? Please!!

This is a known bug. You have no choice but to unistall Office 2007 and
Works and then reinstall Works.

When you downloaded the beta, didn't you see the warning "Beta testers may
experience problems with the Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2 products that
could potentially result in loss, corruption, or destruction of existing
data."? They weren't kidding.

I uninstalled Office 2007, I uninstalled Works, and then reinstalled
Works. Now I'm getting a little different message "The procedure entry
point? Load UI Resource DLL@MWbllnt1@@SAPAUHINSTANCE__@@PB_WPAU2@@Z
could not be located in the dynamic library WKWBL.dll".
Any ideas now??

Thanks for this. My problem is that Office 2007 beta removed Outlook
during install (which it did warn about), so if I uninstall Office 2007
I will lose Outlook. I will have to re-install Outlook from disc.
How can I then recover my mails?

I'm not the right person to answer that - I use OE, not Outlook, and I don't
back up emails. Nothing I save saved in email form (over 1000 of them) are
life-shatteringly important. I'll bet if you post your question in an
Outlook-specific newsgroup, you'd get a helpful MVP to respond.

Office uninstalls never touch the user's data - however, this is a beta so
you can never tell. Your .pst file (where everything is stored in Outlook)
should be fine. If you need to create a new mail profile, you can configure
it to use your current .pst file. (Formats are the same in OL 2003 and
2007).

My computer was preloaded with Works(which is now not working after I
loaded Office Beta.
I don't have the Works CD to reload the program. What are my options?

You'll have to call your computer manufacturer's tech support number. They
can tell you how to access the hidden partition where Works resides.
