Sorry, but I don't know what "appending to a blank email message below the addressing at the bottom" means. Can you describe the behavior in a little more detail?

I guess I used the wrong term. I mean the signature information at the end
of my email messages.

Now, when the template is used, the first thing that appears is my signature
information, then the template. Before, the template would appear
immediately at the top of a new message.

For example, a new message the way it currently appears might look something
like:

[Signature information]
[Text of template]
[Signature information]

Sorry about the confusion.

That's the way Outlook has always worked -- it inserts the automatic signature at the beginning of the message, above any other text. Is your signature also embedded in the text of the template? Did you recently install any Office service packs?

When I start a new message, my cursor always starts above the signature
information. It has been doing this as long as I have been using Outlook, so
I don't understand how you are saying the signature is above any other text.

I created all my templates by opening a new message, typing my text, then
SaveAs a template (*.OFT). If that process saved the signature, then it is
part of my template.

Until recently, whenever I used any template, it simply opened as if it was
a new message, showing my saved text and a signature, all at the top of the
message window. Now, there is an additonal signature at the top. Why would
it work one way (the correct way, just opening the template) for the longest
time, now suddenly switch to adding an additonal signature at the top?

I do not have any control over what upgrades to Outlook are done. That is
handled by our IT department. The server itself in controlled by our
corporate office.

The cursor is at the top.

Then the signature.

Then other text from reply/forward, stationery, etc.

If you turn off your autosignature and run the .oft file, you'll see what the .oft file itself contains.

You can check your Outlook version and build number with the Help | About Microsoft Outlook dialog. I suspect that a service pack was recently installed that causes Outlook to insert an autosignature into custom form messages. See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=840393

I turned off the autosignature and the template works the way it used to,
with a signature at the bottom. (I assume it is stored in the template.)

I am running Outlook 2002(10.6516.6735) SP3.

Basically, you are saying that for any new typed emails, I can leave the
autosignature on. When I use a template, I need to turn off autosignature.
Am I understanding correctly?

Or use the registry value documented in the article I suggested to turn off autosigs on custom forms.

The change in the article says it is for Outlook 2003. I tried the change
anyway,(substituting 10.0 for the 11.0) but it did not work. I still get the
extra signature when using the templates.

That should work (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842778). Did you restart Outlook?

The change in article 842778 does not work. I even rebooted before
restarting Outlook, but no luck.

Just on the off chance that Outlook didn't completely shut down, you might want to restart Windows, too.
