That doesn't work .... even with those unchecked in Windows Messenger, it
loads itself when MSN Messenger is started. Jonathan Kay had a solution I
used which worked .... forgot what it was though :-) .... Jonathan?? ;-)
Menno
To disable Windows Messenger, you can use this tool:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/MessengerDisable.zip
Otherwise you can follow these instructions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302089/en-us
Bye and Happy New Year! :-)

To do so, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon in the
notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run
and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7
You can always reinstall it if you need it (for Remote Assistance in MSN Messenger for
instance).

Without uninstalling, Windows Messenger can be disabled using the tool
or using the method described in the KB302089 article "Windows Messenger
4.5 or later versions on a Windows XP Home Edition-based computer or on
a Windows XP Professional-based computer".
But moreover, to prevent a slow execution of Outlook Express, I suggest
to hide Windows Messenger from OE using the tool or following these
instructions:
http://www.tweakxp.com/article37202.aspx
Bye :)

It's not worth it, because disabling it is harder to fix than reinstalling it.

So is it better to uninstall it not to disable it?

OK :-)
When Windows Messenger is uninstalled, I noticed that MSN Messenger must
be reinstalled to work fine.
Maybe it's better to add the "Hide Messenger" value in the registry for
OE, too.
