In general, add-ins that are made for Windows versions of Excel will
also work on Mac versions as long as their creators were intelligent
about their design. Since you don't name the add-in or offer to tell us
its provider there's not much we can say specifc about the macro you are
referring to.
Is the "messy" web query method you're referring to the Data > Get
External Data > Run Saved Query method?

Windows. I was referring to the Stock Quote Add On that Microsoft
themselves provide for Excel 2002/2003 for Windows.
This Add-In works great on my windows machine. However, there is no
reference in that web page about how to use the plugin for mac.
As for the web query: I was referring to the Run Saved Query. It
brings in everything from the website I refer to, not just the specific
information I want. It is very unwieldy (although arguably much more
general purpose and powerful) and not suitable for the simple funtion
that I need (which is to retrieve stock data in real time).

I downloaded and installed the add-in onto a computer that has Excel 2003.
It looks like the add-in makes a fairly simply toolbar and executes a
web query to a server that is configured to respond appropriately to
various queries. The add-in has two user forms and a hyperlink or two.
Unfortunately, this particular add-in was designed very screwy. It does
not have a .xla extension nor does it put itself into the office add-ins
folder. Had it been made in a normal, straightforward way the add-in
would work in Excel 2004. But it wasn't.
If someone had the time and resouces it would be possible to monitor the
TCP/IP traffic of this add-in and capture the queries and responses from
the server. Then you could make an add-in that uses those web queries
and have them work with Excel 2004 AND Excel 2003 instead of the
botch-job that the current add-in offers.

Yes, a simple web query is all it would take to get the results that the
add-in generates.
But there are a lot of more complicated ways to do it, too. The add-in
could use any number of methods, some of which work in Excel 2004, and
some of which do not. Here's a link to Microsoft's developer network
web site. It has lots of altnerative ways to get info from web servers.
If I had to guess, I think the add-in uses the information in this URL

Welllll, yeah... kinda:>}But not at all what you're probably accustomed to
in PC Excel - no "browser" window, no yellow buttons with the black arrows,
etc.
