"A script is attempting to access your address book." Then it gives
further dire warning and asks if I want to allow access. If I click
yes, it keeps popping up the same dialog. If I click "cancel" the
dialog goes away. I've checked my scripts folder to see if anything
could be causing this but I don't see anything.
Can someone help me resolve this? TIA
You must be running an applescript from a rule or a schedule. and the script
must be checking or doing something in the Address Book. It's odd that you
don't _know_ you're running a script, since you must have set it up.*
Perhaps you're running a utility such as SpamSieve (I'm not sure if that
specifically checks the Address Book but it stands to reason it might).
Check all you rules and schedules.
OK, once you find out what script it is, and you realize you do in fact want
it to work, go to Preferences/Security and turn off "Warn before allowing an
external application to access the address book", plus the similar one about
sending mail. I think you can turn this off also from the warning dialog.
* Some day in the future, someone will devise a type of virus for the Mac
that will probably still require your intervention (doing something dumb
like double-clicking an unknown attachment) but which will attempt to get
hold of the names and addresses in your Address Book. That's what the
warning is for. If you're a regular user of scripts, you have to turn the
warning off.
