Project colored dots disappeared with SP2

I had updated to SP2 and everything was fine with Entourage (sort of).
Now, suddenly and without warning, the colored dots that appeared on
calendar events that were linked to a project have disappeared. The
space for the dot, however, is still there.

Other strange goings on:

If I choose "Projects", the large window showing the names of the
projects has each project in the color that it was assigned. However,
in the small panel on the left, the projects in the heirarchial menu
are not colored (before they were).

Can someone please help?????

I'm having exactly the same problem... the only thing that *might* have
precipitated this (other than SP2) was the latest Mac Security update
that I downloaded this morning.

I rebuilt my Entourage database - but the problem persists.

I've tried repairing permissions, running maintenance scripts using
Tiger Cache Cleaner, but no avail.

This is bad news, since I use the project color coding to organize my
emails all the time.

Since downloading the SP2 I'm having a similar problem with the tiny
icons not showing up in the "week view" that have previously indicated
a link from a meeting to a contact or that it is a recurring event. The
links are still in the event, but there's no direct evidence of this
any longer in the "week view" display. Instead you have to open the
event and click on the link to verify the link is there. This is loss
in display functionality.

There's also an annoying change in the way the pull down menu to move
messages to a folder is displayed. The quick menu now adds the phrase
"(on this computer)" to every folder making it even harder than it was
before to locate the folder I want to move the message into. I
understand that this is probably because they've added more remote
capacities for managing other's e-mail, but it would be better to have
some color coding or other preference options to control the pull down
menu display to various folders.

I also downloaded the Mac Security Update 2005-008 (Mac OS X 10.3.9) at
the same time as SP2. I'm not savy enough about OSX and MSOffice to
know for certain whether the Secuirty Update could be a factor in these
changes, but I tend to doubt it.

I rebuilt permissions which had no effect on the display changes in
Calendar.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to inform MS about these
issues or any suggestions of how to restore these display functions in
Entourage?

Have you run software auto update from Apple today?
I repro your second problem in your posting after OS software updating in
Entourage 2004 pre-SP2.
Thanks,

Hi,
Did you upgrade to Entourage SP2 before you update with Mac Security update?
Before you run Mac update this morning, did you see the colored dot for your
project?
Thanks,
Keiko

Thank you for your report.
As for Project colored dot, did you see the colored dot for your project in
SP2 before you run Mac security update? I encountered this problem even in
Entourage pre-SP2 after running Mac security update.

Thanks,
Keiko

Hi All,

Count me in, too! I noticed the "DOT" problem shortly after upgrading
the recent Mac updates -- the secuity update included. I don't know if
there's a correlation or not--

I'm with you all in that I find the "DOT" an invaluable tool and am
experience some trauma over its loss.

Any Remedies?

BTW--I'M STILL RUNNING SP1 OF MICROSOFT OFFICE FOR MAC

So the conflict must reside with one of the recent updates for Mac.

ALTHOUGH, I cannot say that I lost them immediately. If memory serves
me correctly, I had the dots even after the update. However, I did have
a system freeze sometime thereafter and after rebooting, I noticed the
dots gone.

I'm not sure of my "upgrade" sequence. I actually did both the SP2 and
Mac Security upgrade within a few minutes of each other and noticed the
issue after completing both installs.

JohnnyO's comment still running SP1 seems to implicate the Mac Security
upgrade. Sounds like it's time to look or cross post on some of the Mac
OS blogs.

You can rest assured that Microsoft will be contacting Apple directly to
report the problem and get it solved in another OS update. (Or if there's in
fact something that Entourage is doing that only revealed a problem with the
OS update, that an Entourage update can help with putting right.) It was one
of the MacBU staff here who first asked whether it was the OS update today
that did had made the difference - he knew already and was asking for
confirmation. They'll be working together on it. That will be a lot more
effective, you know.

Yes, I upgraded to SP2 (Ent. 2004) before I ran the Mac security
update. I did not see the problem in Entourage until after the Mac
Security update.

I lost my dots too after the SP2 update, but I can't remember how it
relates to the security update. I am using Office 2004 student teacher
edition in the UK.

At this point there is no fix that I've seen or heard about. Hopefully
it'll come along soon. I't hard to say whether it's a function of the
Office SP2 update or Apple's security update. Apple made some updates to
ImageIO in the last security update, that changed the way the system handles
.gifs.

Hopefully it'll get fixed in the next releases.

It's not at all hard to say - it's the Apple Update that causes it.

SP1 users who have applied security update 2005-008 have lost their dots.
SP2 users who have not applied security update 2005-008 still have their
dots.

The only 'fix' is to regress the OS to a state before 2005-008, or to wait
for apple to bring out an update to fix the problem.

FWIW, the security update also caused similar types of display glitch in
Filemaker and Snapz Pro. It's Apple's problem, not MS's.

Do an Archive & Install of your OS (Panther or Tiger), use Software Update
to update to 10.3.9 or 10.4.2 and other updates, but NOT Security Update
2005-008. Or wait until Apple releases a fix.

I confirm this theory. I installed SP2 a few hours ago, but I lost the
colored dots 3 weeks ago. Just after I installed Security Update
2005-008 (mac osx 10.4.2 on powerbook G4, Office 2004).
Let's hope in Apple rescue.

I did the archive install for OSX (Panther) and allowed all security
updates for the OS except the 2005-008 as well as all current updates
for Office 2004 and I have my dots back!

I don't see a new message here - did you mean to add something?

Anyway - there is a positive answer now. Apple has released a fix: update to
OD 10.4.3 and you'll have your Project dots back.

Paul- thanks so much for all of the information you've been providing
in this thread. Do you know if there will be a 10.3 fix to this as
well? I'm running MS Office 2004 on both 10.3 (at work, which is
holding off on upgrading) and 10.4 on my laptop. I was very happy to
have my dots back after the most recent OS update on 10.4, but I still
very much miss them at work, where I use the project functionality a
lot more.
