I tried to set the storage limit for one of our user to 3GB but the system
return an error saying "specify a value from 0 through 2097151".
We are using Exchange2K SP3, is there another way to set the storage limit
over 2GB?

Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

If you need to change the limit to a value higher than 2GB, you may use
ADSI EDIT to update it. However, it is not recommended because Outlook
client may experience problem if the mailbox is bigger than 2GB.

Open ADSIEdit to the user in question and edit the values for the following:

mDBOverHardQuotaLimit:

mDBOverQuotaLimit:

mDBStorageQuota:

Hope it helps.

I have some questions about this. I'm trying to find some concrete reasons
that I can give to my executives as to why they can't have mailboxes over 2
gigs. I know about the PST/OST limit, but that isn't enough. Is there
another specific concrete issue that arises when your mailbox size hits a
certain level?

Thanks!
-Matthew

Hi Matthew,

You may check Richard's suggestion if you want to configure a mailbox
larger than 2 GB.

Thanks,

Hi Matthew,

In this case the issue was resolved. If you are encountering a similar
problem my recommendation would be to create a new thread so we can assist
you appropriately.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have. I never got an answer. You didn't address the problem I asked, but I
will go ahead and ask it again.

Hi Matthew,

Actually, the reason why the default size limit for a mailbox is 2GB is
mainly due to the size limit of .pst/.ost. As you know, the size limit of
pst/.ost is also 2GB. If the size of a mailbox exceeds 2GB limit, it's
impossible for user to offline access the mailbox using .ost, and also .pst
file is limited to 2GB so if a mailbox gets larger than that, recovery gets
more difficult.

Hope this clarifies.
