Hi

We have a Hosted exchange environment. I am connecting from outside (no AD
connect) using Entourage 2008. I can read my mail but cannot update any
subfolders e.g. Calendar, Sent Mail etc. I get a Sync Error with unknown
error -18500 and nothing is updated.

I think this might be a permission problem on the server folders but I can
find no reference to this error no anywhere. The Entourage MVP's suggested
trying this group.

Any one any Ideas?

I should says ALL the latest patches/updates are installed on Entourage/Mac
and I have been told the Server is up to date by our host service.

Is this just an issue for your account? Are other users ok?

Does it happen on another Entourage 2008 client machine?

For a Hosted Exchange solution they should be helping you resolve this
issue.

Feel free to name and shame :-)

Only the Apple Users have this problem (All of them). From the PC with
Outlook and with OWA it all works fine

Yes, I have tried multiple machines to the same account (I have a desktop
and notebook) and also multiple machines to multiple accounts (Others with
apple notebooks).

The Host has the attitude that they only provide support to 100% Microsoft
solutions i.e. Windows and Outlook. I have tried explaining that Entourage
is also a Microsoft Product but they say we are on out own if we don't use
the 'Microsoft recommended' solution. I shall leave them nameless for now
since they might help with a little guidance.

In Entourage, are you using your Outlook Web Access URL (ex.
http://owa.my-domain.com/exchange) in the "Exchange server" setting under
"Account Setting - Server Configuration"? Did you enter the path to the
public folders under "Advanced - Public Folder Settings"?

If so, are you able to access your OWA with a browser from the outside and
perform all tasks successfully?

If that server address doesn't work you may need to append your user's
E-mail address:

server.domain.com/exchange/us...@domain.com

SSL is also probably required since this is a hosted Exchange solution.

Hope this helps!

Yep I have done all of the above.

Servername
Services.domain.com
can see mail and send and receive but get sync error -18500
server.domain.com/exchange/us...@domain.com
same as above

Public folders server is set (note this is Entourage 2008) and I can see
free/busy info (but not anothers Calendar even when permissioned)

OWA in a browser works fine without problems. So does Outlook on a PC.

I am using SSL.

But no clue as to error -18500. Undefined error.

Ouch. Working partially?

I suggest you take Oliver's suggestion and name the provider in case
someone else here can give you his experiences with Entourage and their
service.

By the way, I don't know what would be considered a "Microsoft
recommended solution" but Entourage is a Microsoft supported product. If
this company is a Microsoft partner of some sort then they can get
support to help you in a variety of ways.

Also, suggest that consultants may not cheap but the good ones could
probably sort this out quickly enough to warrant not losing potential
business from Mac users.

Hi,
we have the exact same problem with MobileExchange
(www.messaging24.com).
I don't think that they are the only hosted exchange solution with
that problem on Entourage clients.
So any proactive help from Microsoft possible?

Thanks,
Joachim

Ok since you named them I should do the same.

Yes our host is MobileExchange (www.messaging24.com). They claim to be
Microsoft certified support partners but I think they are lost here.

Hi Chris and Joachim!

I can't make any guarantees but I'll ask if someone from the Macintosh
Business Unit (MacBU) at Microsoft can review this thread and contact
MobileExchange to offer assistance.

I have no idea what MacBU's policy or procedure for doing this would be
but I've known them to proactively work with vendors to settle problems.
Maybe they will be able to help here.

Any update on this? Our office is having the same issue connecting
outside of our network.

I've had no follow-up. They may be either unable or unwilling to work
with MobileExchange. I don't know.

Hi there,

I'm having the same problem (Error 18500) with the above stated

Did anyone resolve this problem in the meantime?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

even after the installation of the recent update 12.1.4 is still
there.

I even tryed to uninstall the whole office 2008 and reinstalled it
including the 12.1.3 and 12.1.4 updates. No effect.
It's kind of strange, that the entourage still knew about all my
preferences. So I assume the problem might also still be in those
prefs.
Can I somehow get the package uninstalled completely?

Thanks,
Thomas

Delete the entourage plist file. No need to delete Entourage itself.
