Hello everyone...
I wonder what will be the best way to protect an excel file.?
I have vested so much time, using API, get the volume number, machine number
and user name, then I created a password, in dialogBox. For some normal user
it is difficult enough. But as far as I know it is not enough, I can crack
it myself, and I wonder should I convert it as (*.xla )file , I been told
that this add-in could be cracked too.

So, any of the Guru in this news can advice me with the best protected way
so if I give my file away I feel that it will not be cracked? Please post an
answer, or recommendation.
Appreciate any help in this matter.

Excel's protection options are effective for users who aren't inclined to
want to crack passwords (i.e., the vast majority of users).

But if someone really wants to break into your Excel file, they will find a
way. There is no method that is 100% effective. If you need to protect only
your macros, consider writing a COM add-in.

contained my macros, and code? and the market now full with software which
easy cracked everything such as Advance products.

So it seam *.xla will not work, would you direct me of a link which more

Hi,

In the Workbook, goto File > Properties. Fill in all the
relevant details then, to protect your codes, go into VB
Editor click Tools> VBAProject Properties or Your "Project
Name" Properties. Click Protection Tab. Checkmark "Lock
For Viewing" then put in a Password. If you mistype or
forget your password, you are ****ed!

appreciated, my problem is more than that, my code will do this and save and
protect my file upon close so if you hit cancel, or the X for the dialog box
, it will close the dialogBox and protect the workBook. My problem is those
who invented utilities which can open the pass word even for your Module. I
cracked mine several time different utility.

Thanks for your reply any how.

You can password your userform, password protect the
workbook, use a macro in each sheet code to protect it but
in the end, is your code that super fantastic and the
results so fantastic that nothing else will compare?

If, by chance, your code contains a virus macro that
affects the users' computer or other files, I would want
to protect against that. You could be in deep poo-poo if
you distributed a macro that was improper.

I have just started using the Userform password to stop
busybodies from looking at my spaghetti code. My macros
work okay but my code leaves a lot to be desired.

If somebody wanted to see my code, they need but ask for
the password.

No offence intended

Hello Mark
My worBook is an estimate tool which I stated 1989 when I used Quarto Pro,
then converted step by step to an excel. It has a userform, this what I
refer to as a dialogBox, for user to log in with a proper pass word. the
password is unique for each machine because I collect the information throu
API, serial number of the machine"computer", username, VolumeNumber, then in
myCode I assign it my way.

So,If the user open the excel, the user form displayed, two choice either
cancel or add the correct password, if correct password it will unprotect
all the sheets for estimates with the exception of my code. If not, you have
to try again until you get the correct password or cancel. if you use the
cancel Button, it will shut down the estimate file no chance.

But with the new utilities I used two for testing I break through each sheet
and module and userform.

Have a good Day
