Each time I try to copy a worksheet excel basically does nothing. No
new copy is created and I get no error message. I tried to unprotect
the sheet but it isn't protected in the first place. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you trying to copy the WSheet in the same Workbook? If so,
right-click on the sheet tab and select from the menu "move or copy"
Then make sure you select the Copy check box. Otherwise you will only
move the sheet from where it is to where it is.

When you select copy check box, you should get a new sheet with the
same name + (2). Excel 97 SR2

I've been doing exactly what you have described. I have done this many
times before but suddenly it's not working. Still can't figure it out.

Try this.

- save the workbook;
- right click the tab and select 'move/copy'

If the worksheet does not reference any other worksheets in
the workbook
- copy the worksheet to a new workbook (check the copy
check box)
- rename this new worksheet
- move it back (don't check the copy check box)

If the worksheet references other worksheets in the workbook
- move the worksheet to a new workbook (don't check the
copy check box)
- copy it back (check the copy check box)
- rename this new worksheet
- move it back (don't check the copy check box)

If it worked save the updated workbook otherwise do not save
the workbook and open the old copy then:
- save each worksheet in the workbook to a new workbook -
SaveAs Excel 4 will do this.
- recombine the worksheets into one workbook.

All this should give you a copy of the worksheet but it may
avoid whatever is causing the problem.

Chrissy,
About the only way I've found around this sudden new problem is to
insert a new worksheet and then select all on the worksheet that won't
copy and do an insert copied cells into the new blank worksheet. That
seems to work. Just wish I knew what started all this in the first
place. Thanks for your help.

The easiest way to copy a worksheet is to select its tab and, whilst
pressing Ctrl and the left mouse button, dragging it to another position.
You will notice that next to the mousepointer a plus sign appears.

It sounds as though the workbook and/or the worksheet are
corrupt so the best option may be to copy all the formula to
a new workbook then copy all the formatting. This should
eliminate the possible corruption.

I am having the same problem as Don. It started ever since I upgraded to windows 10. There is no corruption in my worksheets. The problem with copy and paste is that formatting is lost. I will submit this to Microsoft but they will probably just suggest that I upgrade to office 365.

Lots of people are reporting lots of file issues after upgrading to
Win10. So many, in fact, that people have suggested M$ did this
deliberately to force people to buy or upgrade newer software. Many
corporations/institutions/government services are issuing bulletins to
*not upgrade to Win10*!

If you have too many cell formats you can no longer copy a sheet. It
will not give you an error message just won't let you copy the sheet.
The issue is not from too many formats but from corrupt styles. There
are fixes for the too many cell formats on the web. The easy way to see
if this is the problem is on your home tab of your ribbon in the style
section there is a drop down. When you select the drop down you see
many styles that have very funky names then you have this problem. This
typically occurs when you copy from other workbooks into your workbook.

If the sheet/tab name is too long, it will not copy as it needs to allow Excel to automatically add numbers to the end of the copied sheet. Try shortening the sheet name.
