Limiting users with there email

I have a user who wants certain users to have Internal
Email only, with only ceratin ones that will be able to
send email outside. I know with Exchange 5.5 you could
just delete the smtp address on the users and this would
limit them to Internal email only. Now with Exchange 2000
it doesn't let you delete the smtp address. Is there a way
to work around this or what am I missing or are they just
going to have to live with this? Thanks

I think you can still do the same thing:
Go to A&D Users, double click on a user, go to Email addresses tab.
The user should have two SMTP entries, one for their internal address, and
one for the external address. The external one is probably boldfaced
(meaning it has been selected as the 'primary').

Highlight the user's internal email address and then select to make it
primary. You can then go and delete the SMTP entry for the external email
address.

We have the x400 as internal and smtp for external when
you try to delete the smtp it says no you don't the smtp
is required. Thanks

I'm pretty sure if you deleted the smtp address in exchange 5.5, it would
only prevent you from receiving e-mail, but that there was no way to prevent
sending. However, someone posted a procedure for what you are trying to do
within the past couple of weeks (Susan Bradley, I'm almost sure). You
should be able to find it if you do a search or scan through the subject
lines.

5.3 Q: How can I prevent a user from sending and receiving Internet
mail?

A: Follow the steps outlined below:

Create a group called InternalOnly.

Create a recipient policy that gives them a fake SMTP address. i.e.
@fake.domain. Leave the X400 address alone so they can receive internal
mail.

Drill down through Routing Groups > Group Name > Connectors > SMTP
internet connector(s), choose its properties. Choose the Delivery
Restrictions tab, and under "reject", add this group. Do this for each
connector.

Follow the steps in Q277872, regarding Connector Restrictions.
