I'm imagining that there should be a website that indexes/displays
Metacello configurations in several dimension:

- project info ... tags overall project description, web sites
- version info ... list of versions, descriptions of versions
- package info ... package/project dependencies and structure
- code info ... global references, selectors implemented, selectors
sent

Some of these things are harder than others and all don't have to be
done to make for a useful site. Just providing an index of project
info would be useful. Of course we'd have to had interesting project
info to the config, but that's probably the easy part:

Another pragma could be defined that recorded project meta
data...leading to the possiblity that a
Metacello confiugarion containing only project meta data could be
created for projects that aren't
managed with Metacello or even using Monticello...

The idea would be that this website would periodically poll registered
repositories and update the configuration in it's data base....

I mention this on the list, because I won't be getting to something
like this any time soon and even if I did, I'm not a talented web
designer, so it would probably be ugly.

I also imagine that other folks have already done bits and pieces...

Anyway, it's something to think about.

Dale: I have waiting for this email :)  Since Esteban commented the Loader features (searching for example) I immediately image a Seaside application using Loader for that :)    I couple of ideas:

1) Use Loader as the interface. Maybe Loader is not the best name because you can also search for example

2) Would be cool to be able to search for projects

3) We can add information to the project itself. For example, stuff like:  Developers, Summary of the project, tags, website, mailing-list, etc. This may be static and independent of rthe versions and baselinds. Maybe we can even use what we have in Monticello, but there are configurations that have more than one package or repository

4) Would be cool that when browsing the versions, you can also show the code to load that version of that Project. So that someone can do a copy paste in their image and just install it. If it is complicated, even can download a .cs

I really like the idea. I hope someone is willing and has time to do it.

Cheers

That would be great great great!
A smart search engine would be great as well.

Indeed, this would be a nice thing to have.

I would suggest to keep that in mind and learn what is really useful.
I saw many attempts to describe stuff and after a while you have 10% of infomration
really used. So I would first focus on metacello metacello metacello
and only when the pressure is there that you cannot do otherwise propose a simple solution.

Great advice. I think that the need for an indexing/search site of
some sort is real, but when I ask myself "what would I need right
now?", I can't come up with a problem that shouldn't first be
addressed by something like an image-based tool, like Loader...
