Hi,

What's the current status of the port? Can you not just compile
Mercurial into java bytcode?

No. Not yet, at least. Jython lacks the bzip module, although we
(Jython developers) hope it will be implemented on the 2.5 final
release (which is planned for January).

Then someone would have to port the few but important bits which are
written in C to Java. And as Charles Oliver Nutter (JRuby lead)
said[1], this is a quite interesting and useful work, for anyone who
is interested.

I even started porting some of the C-modules to Java, but it is really
a big task.
