Map Maker Update: Redeemer- Feb 28, 2011

Hi Mappers!

“If nothing ever changed there’d be no butterflies...”
and change is an integral part of life for the Map Maker team. We've been hearing you on the forum and Issue Tracker and your feedback has made a world of difference on how these changes are directed. Taking another step forward we’d like to announce the next update on Map Maker titled ‘Redeemer’, for the team here intends to help make mapping activities smoother than ever before.

Here’s what we’d like your inputs on:

Updates

• When editing intersections, you’ll now see an option to toggle between elastic and normal intersection dragging.
  Normal mode: Only the intersection point will be moved.
  Elastic mode: The intersection and the connecting segments will be moved.
  This resolves Issue 1033 - thanks Andres for reporting!   

• A link to the dependent edit is shown for roads that are waiting for other features to be published. Resolves Issue 298 - thanks to Mihai for reporting!

• Walkway and Access Path have been removed as categories. For all paths that are used by pedestrians and/or bicycles and do not support any vehicular traffic such as cars, motorcycles, etc. please use “Trail/Path.”

• You’ll now be able to edit the Name for long routes by selecting to “Edit entire <route name>” from the edit drop-down. Previously, we showed the message “The feature you are trying to modify is too long, cannot modify it directly.”  
  Partly addresses Issue 217 - thanks to Greg for reporting!

e.g.  To edit entire NH 7, you can select Edit entire NH7  from the edit drop down as shown in the screen-shot below.

• The Edit this segment option for a linear feature will disallow the adding/editing of names. To add a name to a selected linear segment, please use the Select a segment tool. Name editing will be enabled only if the segment has only one parent route that extends only over this segment.

• Address editing of features has been improved. This fixes all the “The feature's address could not be validated” errors. You will also be allowed to blank out the address if any auto-populated value is incorrect. Resolved Issues 44, 1283, 1291, 1319, 1271, 32, 300, 920, 292 - thanks to all who reported!

• Street names for features that are farther from the street will now appear in the drop-down. Roads up to 250 meters will now be shown in the Street Name drop-down.

• The Street #  field has been changed to Plot # / Building #
  Resolves Issue 971 - thanks to momers for reporting!    

        

• The Colloquial name type has been removed. In its place, the type Local has been added which should be used to indicate if a name is in the local language of the particular place.

• While adding / editing a feature, the fields, where you have made changes appear with a hint of color giving a clear indication of the changes.

• Your last location and map type (Satellite/Hybrid/Map) on Map Maker will be set as your default settings the next time you visit Map Maker.

• All mandatory fields will now be highlighted if left blank
  

• The “Type” of name will be blank by default for newly added features.

• Search result markers ( ) will be always be placed within the polygon. For a few geometries, the marker was previously shown at the edge of the polygon.

• Regular mappers will find fewer of their edits being held for review.

• Pending features are now search-able using the Find near this point or the Select a point tools from the Find toolbar.
