We are really getting into finding a space now. Please use this thread
to post candidates. Also, make phone calls on your own to get square
footage and prices.

I spoke to a guy that founded a makerspace in South Carolina and his
advice is to find a rental that is priced so low 4-5 members could pay
for it. Since we are shooting for $50 per member that puts us at about
$250-$350.

Main points we are looking for:
-Month to month lease
-24/7 access
-area walk-ability
-access to public transit
-large space
-lowest possible rent (less than $500)
-utilities included
-electricity

This one has been suggested by a member.

This one is a small office in Miramar. It's small but cheap and a
start.

----
This one is in PB and it looks promising. $290 per month no idea how
big it is.

----
This one is north of Miramar, it too is small but has 24/7 access for
$161 for 129sqft

Let's get involved and kick this thing off!

I talked to my friend, He says that he can point us to some people that could be interested in renting to us.

I've found a site that has different levels of space. $500 would get
us our own office and 24/7 access. $250 would get us use of the shared
space and the 24/7 access.

I think we should revisit the idea of using a shared space like that
one or the Ansir Innovation Center again.

http://aicenterca.com

At Ansir we would lock up our projects in the 100sqft office and still
use the shared space. They were willing to work with us on the rate.
They were starting at $400 but were willing to come down on that until
we can afford more. On the site they have a 3 month deal for a total
of $500. That's $167 per month. Even with only 4 paying members (we
have more) that puts us in the sweet spot for dues at just over $40
each. If we out grow the one office we can always rent another and I'm
sure we can get an even deeper discount there.

Please, sound off and participate in the discussion.

Hi folks,

Ansir Innovation Center is cool, I am in favor of this.

Just curious what's the deal with the Neucleon
http://www.neucleon.org/ Seems like that hackspace is off and running
here already.

They are pretty far from the greater San Diego area for most of our members. But there is no reason those that want to can't double dip if they have the means.

Since I spent 1 1/2 days last weekend at Ansir   for SpaceUP
I  in favor of that.       If as always the price is good.
It's close by car, but we need to check on how it works
for those without cars.

Ansir is cool my vote is there ... it would be nice to see it.

Instead of Letstat's (on Saturday) if there is interest, I am happy to
invite to group to meet at my lab (which is a type of hackspace
already) at UCSD Hillcrest.

Location is here:

You can bring your machines and we can discuss techniques.

I spent part of SpaceUP weekend at Ansir
It is in the middle of funky Chinese market Convoy area.
Quite a bit of room to sit and gossip and drink coffee.
Bathrooms and kitchen.

If we could just get a small room to lock stuff up in
and then spread out when we have a larger group
gathered.
That would be nice.

Key to me is to keep costs down.

People need to see this space to really understand.
