Mark Steward (ms7821) and I(mattp) are planning a series of lightning
talks on topics related to language. A non-exhaustive and
non-committal list of topics include:
conlangs (spoken but made up languages, as opposed to natural) -
examples include Esperanto, Klingon and Lojban
Etymology (now words related to each other, where they came from, how
they evolve)
Speech synthesis (computer generated speech)
Language Forensics (how language is used in law - whether in
contracts, or in a courtroom, interpretation of spoken evidence etc)
The international phonetic alphabet (how we represent sounds in other languages)
First up: who else would be interested in giving one or more short
talks (5-10 mins) on related topics?
Secondly: If you're interested in such topics and want to attend such
an event then please indicate your availability at
http://www.doodle.com/bmdb33472i6fhy4b
If the winning date is a weekday the session will start at 1930. In
the case of a weekend day, the event will start at 2pm.
