Status update for kernel-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64:

things improved a little bit. Console switching is now possible, but in
X only a black screen is visible, with the exception of the mouse
cursor, which is visible and moves as it should.

The following message vanished from Xorg.0.log with the new kernel:

Fatal server error:
Failed to map batchbuffer: Input/output error

The messages in the calling VT are the same:

../../../libdrm/intel/intel_bufmgr_gem.c:825: Error setting to CPU
domain 96: Input/output error
../../../libdrm/intel/intel_bufmgr_gem.c:899: Error setting domain 773:

If you reported your problem upstream mentioning the bug number here
would be nice.

Best regards

I have a similar problem, except i don't have any error message on VT or
logs. The mouse cursor is static when it should be animated, and most of
the screen is not updated. Some parts may end up being filled up some
times.

I wonder if it's related to
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=8082400327d8d2ca54254b593644942bed0edd25

I kind of remember a similar problem some time ago that may have been
related to something similar (if my memory is correct, obviously)

I had the exact same issue. Now (maybe after a linux-image package
upgrade, but I am not sure) it changed into corrupted image:
-black squares on text forms
-black horizontal ~16px long lines around

and lots of these messages

[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
render error detected, EIR: 0x00000000
i915: Waking up sleeping processes
[drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 2
at 1)

I have KMS enables, but I had the same corrupted output even without it.

ps: if you think this is an unrelated issue, please let me know and I'll
file another bug.

Thanks,
Ludovico
