Dear Friends!

An impressive delegation of 10 Mixtecos from Pinotepa de Don Luis has arrived at my home. They have brought with them some extraordinary pieces this year. Bedspreads, pillows, table cloths, bags, wallets, huipiles, blouses, rebozos and much more.

They have also brought with them a marvelous movie of their craft!  One part features Hababuc Avendano the head of the Cooperative of Tintoreros (dyers) at work harvesting their sacred purple dye from the rocks along our coastline. The other part features Margarita Avendano and the women of Tixinda --a weaving cooperative,  as they spin and weave. They are not to be missed!

I will be showing the movie at 10am and again at 2pm. At 12 noon, Habacuc Avendano will be sharing with us his Mixtec wisdom and the urgent need to protect their sacred snail.
I hope you will join us for this once in a lifetime event.  I am honored to host these proud people and to share their culture and crafts with you.

Hasta manana!  Patrice

Dear Friends!

I hope you enjoyed the Holidays! I just wanted to remind you that the Season of Giving is not over yet! You have an opportunity to help support a cooperative of Mixtec women weavers this Sunday January 9th at our Holiday Sale and Weaving Exhibition! I hope you'll stop by to see them at their craft, spinning and weaving on backstrap looms! We'll also have live music performances by concert violinist Terry Welch at 11:30am and by Wendy and Rosella at 1:30pm.

A short educational slide show will be showing all day on the extraction process of the rare purple dye "tixinda" or "caracol" that is gently coaxed from the black murex snail that lives along our coastline by the men of Pinotepa de Don Luis, who will also be selling their intricately carved gourds and gourd jewelry. At noon we'll have a very special treat-- a presentation by Habacuc Avendano Luis, the President of  the Tintoreros (the Dyers Union) from Pinotepa de Don Luis who will explain to us this thousand year old tradition and the importance of protecting this endangered snail.

I hope you'll stop by this Sunday anytime between 10am and 4pm and enjoy a tamale or two and help support this very important weaving town from the Costa Chica of Oaxaca!

Happy New Years to you and yours!

PS In case you're in doubt, I've attached a map on how to get to the sale! Most taxi drivers know where the Hotel Sherezada is.
