Hey All,
Sorry it's taken me a minute to send this update! I met with someone from the Denver Public Library last Friday and here's what I found out:
The space they have available that would best meet our needs is the B2 Conference center. It's one HUGE conference room that can be partitioned off into three (still quite large) rooms and a great big central entryway area that could be used for social gathering space or split up into more spaces for sessions if we're creative. I'll be honest that I think it's a little large for our purposes. It also costs $500 to rent for a four hour block. Another limitation of using the Library is that it's only open from 1pm - 5pm on the weekends (budget cut sadness), and we wouldn't be able to have an event there during any hours they're not open. Also, the spaces book up pretty far in advance, so chances are it won't be available in Feb regardless.
It's a beautiful, centrally located, easily accessible space to keep in mind for possible future events, and we do have a contact there now if we need one, but I personally think we should keep looking for KFADEN.
Some other spaces that the person I talked to suggested checking out:
* Downtown Denver YMCA - apparently they offer free community meeting space, but they don't advertise it on their website. We'd need to go talk to them in person.
* Denver Art Museum or Colorado History Museum. (May have some of the same issues as the library re: price and availability.)
* Branch libraries in Denver. MUCH cheaper than the central library, but meeting rooms are smaller and they are a bit harder to get to. Still worth looking into.
* I also have an e-mail out to The Center but I haven't heard anything back from them yet.
I think Ben is also going to talk to someone on Auraria campus today about getting space at the Tivoli, so I'm looking forward to hearing how that goes!

Truth! I have a bunch of IS/library sciences friends and contacts and I keep hearing one simple refrain from them: "Censorship makes our job harder, and it doesn't even work."
On that note, people on this list may like this anti-censorship video the folks at LISNews.com just signal boosted:[0]

It's a really good video to share with your friends, as well, especially since it expressly touches on supporting young people in the learning process. ("Censorship does not equal protection, only education does!")[1]
Also, Rebecca, your email sounds great. I'm eager to know how things go with the Library meeting. :)
Cheers,
