Hi,
sorry for this delayed announcement, just had no time.
Following the good tradition of the last meetups we'll have a good
selection of talks again at our meetup this thursday.
* After delaying his talk two times we will finally have Max Winde [1]
around who will talk about his iOS Drag single touch plugin for jQuery
[2].
* With JavaScript's growing success there are more and more huge JS
heavy applications. Trying to structure that is quite a challenge and
there is more than one library helping you with that. Adam Groves, a
british export living in Berlin, will introduce us to backbone.js [3],
one of the most promising libraries for that out there.
* What pops in your mind when you hear "Google Closure Tools" [4]?
Sure, the compiler everyone uses to minify their JavaScript. But did
you know, that there is actually more in the package? For example
there is a template library in there, a widget library, a DOM
manipulation library and many more. Filip Noetzel [5] used this
library set for a few pet projects already and will give us a overview
of the tools, why they are designed the way they are and what the
differences to other libraries are.
* Mainstream libraries like jQuery, prototype and co have a certain
amount of code only to provide compatibility to browsers that aren't
capable of modern features. Zepto.js [6], written by Thomas Fuchs of
vapor.js fame, goes exactly the other way by focussing just on modern
Webkit-based browsers and thus providing a really small and powerful
library without the compatibility layer. Philipp Bosch [7] gives us a
overview to Zepto and I think the radical approach of this library
should give enough reason to discuss.
* Marijn Haverbeke [8] is known for taking javascript to it's extremes
in some points (see CL-JavaScript, a JavaScript to CommonLisp
compiler). With his javascript based platform game "Legend Of The
Bouncing Beholder" [9] he won the recent JS1k contest by showing what
you can achieve in just one kilobyte of code. Marijn will took us
behind the curtain and will tell us how he implemented certain details
and also will speak about some glitches in the Canvas implementation
of current browser.
As usual the meetup will start around 7pm at Thursday, 18th November.
Location remains unchanged, which means we'll meet at the co.up
coworking-Space [10]. Drinks are available for a small fee.
See you there!
- Robin
