Hello and Good day, today i encountered an issue when connecting my IOIO to my laptop (WIN8-32bit).
I have managed to detect my IOIO in device mode. Switch set to "A"
When trying to run [ java -jar <HelloIOIOSwing.jar> ] the port to which my IOIO is connected (COM17) cannot be opened and the app stops on "waiting for underlying connection" or sometimes the "waiting for handshake"

then i tried re-installing the driver, it showed me this (please see image) which led me to these conclusions:
-- My java version is not compatible with the one in the board
-- There is a problem with my com port and that the communication cannot be established because of the closed com port
-- The firmware inside my IOIO is corrupted
-- or hardware malfunctions/defects on my board
After i exit the app and tried it back, it went back to  "waiting for underlying connection" or sometimes the "waiting for handshake".

Any insight would be great! Thanks in advance.

Gave some advice on your other thread. See inline.

Unlikely

Possible.

Any insight would be great! Thanks in advance.

Another possibility is a problem in IOIOLib and/or PJC (the library that IOIOLib uses in order to access the serial port) over Windows 8. I'm releasing a new version soon with an updated PJC. So far the latest version seems less reliable than the current one for Windows (although works well on OSX, Linux and even RaspPi!). Hopefully I'll get it resolved shortly.

Good day Ytai,
I solved the issue. Thanks to the previous advice you gave - "USB connections is flaky". Just bought a new and shorter cable, then the HelloIOIOSwing.jar successfully connected with my IOIO. There is a little twist on this, it was not just the cable. After testing the HelloIOIOSwing.jar i disconnected my IOIO and plugged in my modem for my internet connection, then when I attempted to run the jar app again, it was like before, no connection can be established. After removing the modem and rebooting my laptop the app worked perfectly again :). So i figured that my modem was the one blocking the connection to my IOIO port :) I hope that if anyone experience the same problem they try the jar file with a fresh boot pc and no other ports connected.

Oh and a quick questions please., my IOIO power led does not light when im connecting from the jst with a 9v Alkaline battery (i just learned these batteries are not good) but it lights when i use GND-VIN(using the same battery) and USB. Is the JST connector on my board possibly faulty? If it is, will my board be okay if i just use the VIN-GND instead? i dont want my board to be replaced because it will take time.

Thanks a bunch! :)

Yes powering from VIN is perfectly fine as long as you maintain the power supply between 5v to 15v.

It seems like somethings wrong with your ioios JST port connection.
