NetportPRO formfeeds with TCP/IP

We just changed our Network from Netware to a UNIX network, and since then, the
Printers are adding Form Feeds at the end of each print job. I even removed
the echo \014 bit in the interface file, and also when I send a few lines with
FTP to the Netports, the printer prints these lines, and then spits out a whole page.
It only does this when sending data through TCP.
Any ideas ?

This sounds like the problem I am having using TCP/IP which I thought was
being caused by the SAP system we are using. Perhaps it is TCP/IP and not the
SAP software causing my problem. (See my previous posts on SAP printing blank
page)

I still haven't solved my problem.

Hi Moritz,

In most situations, changing the printer queue to PASSTHRU instead of TEXT will resolve
this issue. However, adding the \014 bit is what causes the form feed when using the
TEXT queue, so 1. I do not know why that wouldn't have fixed it, and 2. If it is
happening when you FTP a file, then that is very unusual.

I don't know what UNIX flavor you have, or what type of NetportExpress(TM) print server
you have, or even what version of firmware you are running, but I would still recommend
you verify you have the latest version of code, which is 3.24a for the XL models, and
4.41a for the PRO and PRO/100 models.

Also, when you modified the interface file, where did you find it, and what was the name?

On my network i have the same problem, we run SCO Open deathtrap ( sorry
Desktop ) Unixware and HP UNIX, on all versions of UNIX the problem is the
same.

The deleting of the \014 entry in the interfaces file solved the problem for
the Netport XL boxes but for the PRO/100 print servers nothing works.

Please let me know of any progress.

Thanks for the additional info. That is interesting that the fix worked for
the XL models, but not the PRO/100. Do you have any PRO (10 Mbps only) models,
and if so, how do they do? I will pass this info on to our engineers to see if
they have any valuable input.

We have the same problem on printing from AS/400 printqueues to an intel
netport pro. The solution is: HP JetDirect Box.
sorry, Intel.

I finally succeeded in that problem !
Check the etc/printcap file, and make sure that You have the option intl_text
disabled. And make sure, that each printer is only defined once in this file.

This helped for me, however, i had to write a programm that adds carriage
returns after each line for one of our older printers and add it
into the interface script.

Have Fun Moritz
