Shooting trip to Morni-Wedlandia heynei

Dear All,
This plant was photographed from Morni Hills on 10th April, 2011
during our recent trip to that area. I am uploading this specially to
seek my apologies from Dr. Gurcharan Singh. On my way back, I recalled
the name of this small tree abundant in the area.
The tree is actually Wendlandia heynei syn. Rondeletia heynei,
Rondeletia exserta, Wendlandia exserta from Rubiaceae

You can well imagine the trip with such a personality. It was really a
none before trip for me, being in company with such a dedicated and
wonderful worker for two full days really means a lot. We learnt a lot
from them.
Presently I can not provide info regarding the distribution status of
this tree. Will try to do at the earliest.

Wendlandia heynei is a more recent name suggested by Santapau and Merchant in 1962 for a species known in older Indian Floras under the name W. exserta DC. The Plant is distributed in subhimalayan tract from Pakistan, Kashmir, Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Nepal, Sikkim, ascending to 1200 m. It is also met in Central India, Orissa, Northern Concan  and Decan hills, introduced elsewhere.

commonly known as: tilki • Assamese: কদম kadam • Bengali: mimri, tilki • Gujarati: તિલ til • Hindi: तिलक tilak • Marathi: तीळ til • Punjabi: ਪਨਸੀਰਾ pansira • Sanskrit: तिलकः tilakah • Tamil: கதம்பம் katampam • Telugu: తెల్లపూచు tellapucu


Satish ji ... about an year back, had found this species (most probably planted) in a village near base of Ratangad - Kalsubai range (on Bhandardhara side).
Thus there is a chance finding it in Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary.
