Dear all,

Pl find some fotos of Gomphocarpus physocarpus from NE India.

Date/Time-  April, 2007

Location- Place, Altitude, GPS: ca 700m, Damro village, Upper Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh

Habitat: Cultivated at garden

Plant Habit: Shrub

Height/Length: ca 2 m high.

According to IPNI the accepted name is

Asclepias physocarpa Schltr. Bot. Jahrb. Syst. xxi. Beibl. liv. 8.

Syn:
Gomphocarpus physocarpus E.Mey. Commentariorum de plantis Africae
Australioris 1 1836

Asclepias is for Asklepios, the god of healing in Greek mythology
Gomphocarpus means nail like fruit.!!
physocarpa means bladder like fruit !!

Then the word Gomphocarpus should mean nails or spines on fruit!!
