Solanum pseudocapsicum L., Sp. Pl. 1: 184 184 1753.
Syn: S. capsicastrum Link ex Schauer                          

Unarmed erect shrub reaching 1.5 m in height, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Leaves narrow-oblong to oblanceolate, 5-10 cm long, entire or somewhat undulate, glossy above, base cuneate, decurrent and narrowed to a short petiole, apex acute or obtuse. Flowers solitary or up to 3 in a cluster on axillary or extra-axillary very short peduncle, pedicel 3-4 mm long, elongating to 1 cm in fruit and expanded at tip . Calyx teeth triangular to lanceolate, about 2 mm long, enlarged to  4-5 mm long in fruit. Corolla rotate, white, 1-1.5 cm across. Stamens with 2 mm long anthers. Berry globose, 1-2 cm across, scarlet or yellow glossy, long persistent on plant. Seeds 2-3 mm, discoid.

Native of South America, cultivated and naturalised in tropical and subtropical climates
Common names: Jerusalem cherry, Madeira cheryy, winter cherry, False Jerusalem cherry, False winter cherry
