Astrophytum ornatum (DC.) Britton & Rose, Cact. 3:185. 1922

syn:  Echinocactus ornatum DC

Common name: Ornamental monk's hood, Star cactus, Bishop's cap

Succulent cactus with single short cylndrical stems up to 35 cm high and 15 cm thick, usually with 8 acute ribs, white floccose; areoles distant, spines 5-11, awl-shaped, littele curved, yellow becoming brown to 4 cm long; fls yellow, up to 8 cm across; fruit splitting longitudinally.
