Dear All Members,

I will like to share a lovely experience with you which made me understand a true moral of the life. Couple of month back I posted a thread on Eflora of India helplessly asking for some eBooks related to Botany as I will be moving down to Vancouver Canada to complete my higher education it’s impossible for me to take all my books with me due to voluminous size as well as cost of moving it which unaffordable for me at the current moment. I could not download all books from net as I have a slow connection. Balkar Ji promised to help me, he immediately gave me several thread to download book from net. Today what I received from him astonished me!! He sent me a package containing 4 DVD full of eBooks he collection during a course of 5 years which consists more that 850 eBooks related to botany all on his own expense just to help me out. I will not praise him unnecessarily and make him fatigue but today I really to felt that there are some people on the earth out of millions who helps other without smelling their own interest. He is a true teacher by heart, I feel blessed that Balkar Ji is my friend. I know I can never repay back the help he extended me but with a great pleasure if any day I can come in any use to him. I really now know the meaning of long said phrase…

“A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED”

Thank you Balkar Ji, I really feel nice to share the platform of this group with him.

Regards

Tanay

Dear Tanay,
Thanks for sharing the good and kind gesture of one of our dear
friends. There are angels in human form every where, not only in India
but all over the world.
I was once pushed from behind from a train still not slow enough to
get down and was strugling to remain on my foot, could not manage it
and was slipping between two bogies of a fast local at vihar station.
Somebody grabbed me by the hand pulled me to a safe spot and left even
without looking at my face. I did not even have time to thank him.
There are angels in human form.
Regards
Yazdy.

I think that's what sets 'Efloraofindia' & other such groups apart.
I have experienced such gestures from fellow members in the past.
Singh ji, Tanay ji, Dinesh ji & others stand larger than life when it comes to giving everything to the group.

Dear All
I am not a so big personality as stated by Tanay ji and Others. What i have done is the result of the help given by My friends from all over the world. I even does not know the name of some of them. A person from Italy (as stated by him) send me more than 400 Hunderd research paper and so many books but does not agree to disclose his/her identity or even personal email id. I feel that by helping other especially my students, i am repaying the loan of those friends who helped me. This group has changed my way of life. I am having more than 5000 photos of plants catched between 2000-2010 . Now i have a plateform to show them and get them identified (Slow net connection is a big hinderance in showing all of them to you). I was in panic after joining in a small college not having even basic facilities for Molecular Biology Work (Field of My PhD) but after joining this group i changed my line of work completely towards Taxonomy and Ethnobotany. So helping group members is more joyful for me. I am just a Teacher of Botany working in Haryana for popularization of Life Sciences, nothing else. So pls no so big words for me

Thank you all

Regards

Dear Dr Balkar Singh,
I appreciate the humility with which you call yourself just a teacher.
How often does one come across a good teacher? Especially in todays
world where teaching is just another lucrative profession.
I agree with you though there are a lot of wonderful people in the
world and the fortunate amongst us come across them in life. The noble
amongst us try and repay the good that someone has done to us by
parting with the knowledge to others who seek it.
Regards
Yazdy.

Balkar ji
Very well said. Thank Garg ji, this group has changed lives of many of us. Having worked extensively on Floristics of Kashmir valley, I had almost forgotten most of them. While in Delhi for nearly 35 years I was satisfied with teaching and knowing wild plants for students' sake. I never bothered to know many of the cultivated trees and shrubs of Delhi Only after joining this group, the real urge to know every plant was initiated, and now I am mad about plants. A few days back when Vijayasankar ji doubted identification of Arundo donax, I literally rushed to the place, got close ups that helped us to confirm its identity as Phragmites karka. It gives great feeling to have so many experts on the group. When I published my book first in 1999, I had proudly written about TAXACOM where an identification was solved in less than an hour. In our group there have been occasions, when identifications of difficult plants were solved within a minute.
People often ask me what are doing after retirement? Don't you get bored? My simple answer is my more than 1200 people on EfloraofIndia don't allow me to get bored. Ask my wife. She keeps on asking me. Are you really retired? That is the power of this forum.

You are right Gurcharan Ji
From 2004, when i completed my PhD, i moved to Ethnobotany and always thinking that there should be a platform for taxonomist of India and it should have some constructive ideas. Now the thought has came true. Really people in our group are intelligent enough to construct E-Flora of India without the help from Govt of India. I pray to God for the progress of Our Great Group. Many Thanks to Garg Ji for starting such a brilliant Group.
One more thing, i know many taxonomist from northern region and they are not the part of our group. I just wish to know that has somebody tried to invite the persons/Professors/ Readers/Lecturers from Punjab University, Punjabi University, Kurukshetra University, HP University Shimla, GNDU Amritsar etc. I think some of them may not like to join the group due one or the other reasons. If some body has not tried then i may do some work in this direction.

Dear Balkar Ji,

You gave a brilliant idea, it will be a great move to personally invite from the northern universities their knowledge will be a great asset to this group. As many members of this group like you and me are complete from different field of Botany or Life Science we try our best with Plant Taxonomy as we have an attraction for it but if  we can increase the percentage or number of professional Taxonomists in this your I am sure they can help us more.

Regards,

Tanay
