This herb was found in outskirts of Chennai, small about 30 cm high,
somewhat erect but with weak soft quadrangular stem. Flowering in
February.

Because of the dentate leaf margin I thought it was some
Strobilanthes, but all species seem much taller and also the flowers
here are in a sparse spike

I would like to know the ID and how it is distinguished.
Thanks for any inputs

Dear Sinhaji,
Your plant is Stemodia viscosa Roxb. of Scrophulariaceae. Did you collected the herb near any moist locality?

Muthu-ji,
Thanks for the confirmation, it is the same plant as in your post.
Collection was also similaar locality, near paddy fileds,  kanchipuram dstt

Indeed a confusion with "Harebell" can be there because of the delicacy and colour of the petals, but  the corolla is not symmetric all around and the leaves are very different.
