syn: Astrantia candida Mill.; Astrantia montana Clairv

Common name: Great masterwort

Perennial herb with thick rhizome, the umbell surrounded by large whitish bracts. A common plant in meadows in Europe and Western Asia, introduced in British Isles and elsewhere. Photographed in July from SFO Botanical Garden, California.
