Malvaviscus penduliflorus DC., Prodr. 1: 445, 1824
Syn: Malvaviscus arboreus var. longifolius Schery; Malvaviscus arboreus var. penduliflorus (DC.) Schery

Common names: Sleeping hibiscus, Turk's cap

The species is very close to and often confused with M. arboreus subsp. mexicanus but with longer usually nodding flowers more than 5 cm long and narrow lanceolate to narrowly ovate darker green in colour.
