Sechium edule the Chayote squash

This plant Sechium edule also came into focus during discussion on sweet Karela. This plant Chayote squash (common here in California stores) is also sold in NE India mainly Sikkim, Darjeeling commonly under the name squash. There is also a spiny Chayote squash variety here in markets sol under the name espinoda. I wonder whether it has varietal distinction.

In Bangalore they call it Bangalore Baigan. The varieties I have seen
there has no spines unlike this one. I n the Internet also I haven't
seen any spiny one before this one. Thanks for the photo.

Yes the fruit (mature) in the market is without spines. This particular spiny variety in the second photograph is sold here in California under the name Chayote squash  Espinola. It is found rarely, but the regular Chayote squash is very common.
