Can some one identify this tree? Taken in Karnataka. My first take is - Diospyros species.??

Mesua ferrea of Calophyllaceae family. 

Would you please let us know the place of collection including approximate altitude and wild or cultivated?

yes its Mesua ferrea and also planted in Mumbai gardens for its medicinal value and beautiful structure..
