I saw the tree at Yellagiris in Tamil Nadu. Am I right in presuming that it is a Solanum sp. ?
Height 20-25ft Flowers around 6cm across. Did not see any fruits.Thanks very much.

Large blue flowers, tree, prickles only on stem not leaves, I think S. wrightii. Please watch, older flowers should be turning paler and finally white.

I also think this is Solanum wrightii or commonly known as Potato tree.
Kindly see the link below you will find the colour changing phenomenon 
of the flowers evident in photos.
