Dear all,

May I request the learned forum to suggest some good field guides or
handbooks on identification of Indian grasses? I would be grateful.

Thank you in advance

Key identification characteristics, ecological features and importance are described with neat illustrations from live specimens.  (This book also covers 16 Sedges, 33 Broad leaf weeds, 3 ferns and an algae.  topics like -purely rain fed upland rice (rice growing System)  which are giving way to rubber and other commercial crops are also covered in detail). Family names, common English name, Malayalam common names, current scientific name of the plants are systematically written for each species. )
Pages -84,
Price Rs.30/-
Available in Agriculture and Horticulture  departmental book store.

Pls find attached front cover page and few sample diagrams from the book.

Other references
- Flora of Kerala Grasses, Botanical survey of India, Calcutta 1991, Sreekumar P V and Nair V J
- Eflora group -Search for Grass Week: -  good photographs, discussions and coverage from different states.
- Flowers of India web site has  beautifully illustrated new section on Grass kinds. Get a hang on the navigation & quick search features..  you can then identify many of the grass species yourself... I'm sure it will be educative and  a joy to behold.

Raghu
