Posting Guidelines on Indiantreepix

Indiantreepix helps members to interact with each other about our trees, shrubs, herbs etc. in our surroundings & elsewhere in India, mainly by posting pictures, information, identity etc. This also serves as a database for future reference. Efforts are being made to compile (with value addition) all important data posted on it in the form of 'Indiantreepix Database' & made available to the members from time to time for their benefit. Feel free to post your questions, observations, notes etc. on Indian Flora. 
Please observe the following rules while posting:
1. Please post pictures, discuss the subjects etc. relating to Indian Flora, which is the main focus of this group. Avoid posting anything which violates copyrights of others. Try to furnish the inf. yourself (if possible) or from Wikipedia stating its link or provide suitable links etc. 
2. Mention the date & place (at least upto state level) of the pictures posted.  It is useful to add your name and location. Please try to identify yourself while posting. Mistakes are encouraged over stating nothing, for better learning/ understanding. No one is infallible.
3. Each attachment max.150 KB. But one can have many attachments to illustrate different aspects of a tree/plant. But one has to be cautious not to post unnecessary pictures as far as possible.

4.Separate flowers/ plants etc. to be posted in a separate mail for better response, linking, avoiding confusion etc.

5. Scientific or Common names to be given in the subject as far as possible or like "is this Bombax species" or "is it Semal" etc.

6.If you reply to a posting, your message can be sent to the whole group or just to the author. If the reply is only of interest to the author or is personal, please use "Reply to author". 7.Numbering for Id requests- DDMMYY+ Initials+ Sl.No. (if more than one on same day) to avoid any confusion, clubbing of mails with same subject line on the Google group, better linking in Indiantreepix database etc. For example if I post an Id request, it will be like ''For Id 060408JM1'' , 060408JM2 etc., in case it is not like '' is it Bombax ceiba (Semal)?'' (which is much better) & recommended.

8. Members are requested to forward  Id. requests/ confirmation mails again in case there is no response for about 7 days on the group.

9. Members are encouraged to write about this group or request membership to other e-groups, laymen as well as experts etc. to make this group more interesting & responsive. They can join directly by clicking (Home page) on http://groups.google.co.in/group/indiantreepix?hl=en or sending a request to me at jmg...@gmail.com.

10. One may announce Tree/ Bird/ Butterfly walks or programmes locally or outside etc., availability of pertinent publications, software, conferences, launch of new website, important web resource - but no commercial advertising is allowed. Photographic issues related to Indian Flora are allowed for discussion.

These guidelines will be issued every month for the benefit of members & all members are requested to follow them for proper working of the group.

For adding earlier Indiantreepix links, you have to go to the home page by clicking at http://groups.google.co.in/group/indiantreepix or by selecting 'Groups' at the top line of your g-mail page & then selecting the Indiantreepix group. Search the group by adding search words in the search box & then open the suitable search message-> copy the address there & paste it in your e-mail.

One has to re-size one's pictures to say max. upto 800 by 600 pixels with quality settings of say 5 to 10 to bring it upto a max. of 150 KB as per group guidelines for posting.
